Astrophotography

A selection of my astrophotography images from a wide variety of telescopes.

Astro Imaging

As part of my research, I have been able to work with data from some incredible telescopes around the world, including the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) instrument on the Subaru Telescope in Japan and the Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) instrument in Chile. I have also spent time working with data from telescopes for non-research purposes, including the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and data from the public platform Telescope Live. Some of these telescopes provide images in an easily workable format, where three greyscale images can be combined into a single colour image (as shown on the Colour Mapping page), while others required processing a 3D datacube in Python to find and extract the wavelengths of specific gases, then stack the surrounding data to improve the signal-to-noise and detail, before being exported as FITS files to PixInsight for the final colour composite.

Coming soon: A working model of a datacube showcasing extractable wavelengths.
